SMALL GROUPS

At SPC we believe that life is better when we live it together. One of the primary ways we engage in deeper community is through small group gatherings. These groups primarily study together and support each other. We have a variety of open small groups this year.

There are several ways to learn more and join a small group:

  • Get your questions answered on Sunday mornings at the Connect Center in Sanctuary Hall

We are always looking for Small Group Leaders. There's no experience necessary, other than a willing heart. We'll provide the training and support.

    Misreading the Bible with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible by E. Randolph Richards & Brandon J. O’Brien 

    Biblical scholars Brandon O’Brien and Randy Richards shed light on the ways that Western readers often misunderstand the cultural dynamics of the Bible. They identify nine key areas where modern Westerners have significantly different assumptions about what might be going on in a text. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ. 

    Learning to Walk in the Dark by Barbara Brown Taylor

    In Learning to Walk in the Dark, Taylor asks us to put aside our fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us “in the dark.” She argues that we need to move away from our “solar spirituality” and ease our way into appreciating “lunar spirituality” (since, like the moon, our experience of the light waxes and wanes). Through darkness we find courage, we understand the world in new ways, and we feel God’s presence around us, guiding us through things seen and unseen. Often, it is while we are in the dark that we grow the most.
